Welcome to the MLK Academy Family Directory. These Terms of Service set out a plain-language, common-sense agreement between enrolled school families, staff, and the volunteer directory administrator. By accessing or participating in the directory, you agree to these community guidelines designed to protect student privacy and foster a safe, connected school community.
1. Community Purpose & Non-Commercial Use
The MLK Academy Family Directory was created for one specific purpose: to help our school families connect with one another for playdates, carpools, birthday parties, sports teams, school projects, and parent-organized community events.
Using contact details from this directory for commercial solicitations, business marketing, real estate promotions, political campaigns, mass mailing lists, or spam of any kind is strictly prohibited. Directory data may never be harvested, sold, or shared for commercial purposes.
2. 100% Opt-In Participation & Accurate Information
Participation in this directory is entirely voluntary. No family is ever auto-enrolled without explicit consent.
- Authorization: By submitting information to the directory, you confirm that you are the parent or legal guardian of the student(s) listed and that you have authority to share the submitted contact details.
- Accurate Details: You agree to provide accurate, up-to-date contact information so that classmates and community members can reach your family reliably.
- No Discrimination: Opting out or declining to participate in the directory will never affect your student’s standing, enrollment, or participation in school activities or district programs.
3. Confidentiality & Access Restrictions
The directory is a private community resource. Contact listings are strictly reserved for currently enrolled MLK Academy families and verified school staff (including teachers, classroom aides, school office personnel, and PTA room parent coordinators with a legitimate educational interest under FERPA guidelines, 34 CFR § 99.31(a)(1)).
Community Safeguards:
- Passcode & Link Protection: You agree not to distribute or publish the directory passcode, magic links, or one-time passcodes outside the verified school community.
- Authorized School Staff (Viewers): Verified teachers, aides, and school personnel are granted read-only directory access solely to coordinate classroom education, school events, and family outreach. Viewers have zero edit permissions on family cards and are strictly prohibited from sharing information with third parties or using it for non-school purposes.
- No Data Scraping: Automated scraping, harvesting, or bulk downloading of student or caregiver information is strictly prohibited.
- Respect Family Privacy: You agree not to publish classmate contact details, photos, or personal notes on public websites, public forums, or social media networks.

5. Volunteer Community Project Disclaimer
This directory is an independent, non-commercial parent volunteer effort built in good faith to serve the MLK Academy school community. It is not an official school district database or legal student information system.
While we implement standard privacy and security safeguards to keep community data safe, the service is provided on an "as-is" and "as-available" basis without commercial warranties of any kind. Parent volunteers and contributors shall not be liable for incidental service interruptions, errors in family-submitted information, or unauthorized third-party misuse outside our reasonable control.
6. Directory Administrator Moderation
To ensure the directory remains high quality, trustworthy, and safe for all families, the directory administrator reserves the right to:
- Review all newly submitted entries for community validity and basic formatting (e.g., standardizing phone numbers, correcting obvious typos).
- Reject or delete fraudulent submissions, bot submissions, or entries with invalid or abusive contact information.
- Suspend or revoke directory access for any individual found to be misusing directory data, violating non-commercial boundaries, or compromising community privacy.
